Earlier this week, our co-founders revealed what they love most about working with small businesses in honor of National Small Business Week. As Small Business Week 2014 comes to a close today, we thought it would be interesting to talk to a few Yodle clients about why they love being small business owners. Here’s what they had to say:

“As a small business, we get to make the rules and we can help our customers however we want to., We don’t have go through any red tape. Some of our customers are in difficult situations financially but they need our services and I love that we’re able to step in and work something out. Some homeowners might not be able to afford our services but we’re able to make it happen and they are grateful. That’s what I love the most about owning my business.”

-Greg Bowen, Alliance Restoration, Chicago, Illinois

“I enjoy being a small business owner because it provides a unique blend of challenge, expertise, motivation, and accomplishment. Next to being married and parenting children, building a small business is one of life’s most difficult, yet enjoyable endeavors. It allows me to have a measurable creative outlet, to use my financial and management skills, and deeply enjoy how I spend some of my days. I have been involved in small businesses that have failed and I have experienced small businesses that have thrived. For me, owning and operating a business is one of the great honors in life that presents oneself to push through fears and issues of confidence in order to build something of extrinsic and intrinsic value. Pursuing one’s passion with purpose and great effort is one of life’s finest journeys.”

-Joe Kelly, Integrated Counseling Services, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

“To me, time is the most valuable thing in the world and being a small business owner gives me time to do what I want to do. I worked in a chemical plant for 20 years and when I started my own business, it was the best thing I ever did. I like freedom to do what I want. I was able to raise my kids. If you’re living and you’re not enjoying yourself, you’re not living at all. It gives me time to do what I want to do and I appreciate that.”

-Emerson Hall, Hall’s Professional Carpet Cleaning, Detroit, Michigan
